In wake of the rising violence in Pakistan and the recent targeted killing of a qawwali maestro and kidnapping of a top judge's son, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given the go-ahead for scaling up the operation in the provincial metropolis.
Sharif gave the nod on Friday after getting input from senior officials of law enforcement and security agencies, reports the Express Tribune.
Direction to put in place full-proof security measures, especially during the last days of the fasting month of Ramazan and Eidul Fitr, to maintain peace was also given by Sharif.
Meanwhile, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif departed for Karachi today to attend a detailed briefing session on the law and order situation in the metropolis.
His visit comes in wake of the recent unrest in Karachi triggered after the high-profile kidnapping of Sindh High Court chief justice's son Ovais Shah and the assassination of famed qawwal Amjad Sabri.
General Raheel will attend a briefing at the Crops Headquarters in Karachi along with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and other high-ranking officials, reports say.
