Former Afghan president Hamid Karzai met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on Tuesday and discussed Afghanistan and regional security.
Karzai's office said on Wednesday that the former president, who is presently attending the Moscow International Security Conference, and Lavrov discussed, reports the Tolo News.
During the meeting, Karzai said he hoped Russia's efforts in helping to bring peace and stability to Afghanistan will continue and that these will eventually lead to direct talks between the Taliban and the Afghan government.
On his part, Lavrov promised that Russia will continue its efforts to help bring peace to Afghanistan, according to the statement.
Abdul Qayoum Kochai, Afghanistan's ambassador to Moscow, former foreign minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani and Abdul Karim Khuram were also present at the meeting.
