Kashmir holds spring festival in Tulip garden

Jammu and Kashmir celebrated blooming season as people thronged Asia's largest Tulip garden in the valley to attend the spring festival.

The three-day festival, organised by the department of tourism, was thrown open to public on Saturday with much fanfare. A slew of activities was also organised to entertain the visitors.

"The main aim of the festival is to promote tourism and generate employment and grow the economy in the valley, artists and hoteliers can benefit from this festival," said Director of Tourism Department, Talat Parvez.

The spring fest was attended by famous Bollywood Director, Imtiaz Ali, who expressed happiness to be a part of the festival.

"I am privileged that ministry of tourism invited me to this festival. When they invited me for the festival, I had made up my mind to attend it as I never wanted to miss the spring festival. I have been to Kashmir many times and have also shot movie scenes," said Ali.

The festival comprises painting competitions, music and dance programmes. The participants were seen painting beautiful scenery of the garden, which left visitors spell bounded.

"There should be a variety in the spring festival. Colours of spring should be spread through paintings, through dance, through music. It feels better," said a visitor, Rashmi.

The tulip garden was opened in 2008 with the aim of boosting tourism and floriculture in the state.
