Kashmir pins hope on Modi after his sweeping win, supporters rejoice

Supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) celebrated remarkable victory of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) prime minister- designate Narendra Modi, in Kashmir on as people pinned hopes on the country's new leader.

A large number of activists of the state unit of BJP gathered on Saturday in Sher-e-in Kashmir Park in Srinagar dancing to the tunes of drum beats and even sung praises for Modi.

Rejoicing pro Modi supporters also burst crackers and distributed sweets among each other.

A worker from BJP state unit said that Kashmir was all set to welcome Modi, the new leader of the country, who had extended the promise of development to all the provinces.

"You are seeing such celebration in Kashmir for the first time and we believe that from today onwards, in Kashmir, celebrations have begun from today. And, day by day you will get to see such celebration on the roads, houses and I the lanes of Kashmir. Along with the entire country, the workers over here are filled with enthusiasm and we convey our wishes and prayers to Narendra Modi from Kashmir valley," he said.

Narendra Modi, on Friday, thundered to a historic victory in the 2014 general elections resulting in a seismic political shift that gives the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a mandate for sweeping economic reforms.

Moreover, a Modi supporter Ayesha echoed that she confident and hopeful that there will be a positive change in Kashmir under Modi governance.

"Our Modi is very clean hearted. I know that if he will take the charge of Kashmir, he will improve the condition of the state. From today onwards, nobody here will suffer injustice nor would our brothers will have to sacrifice their lives. Even if one of our brothers is sacrificed, our Kashmir's situation worsens. We are really enjoying the celebrations and we are happy that our Modi won," said Ayesha.
