Katy Perry has shed light on why she briefly broke-up with John Mayer earlier in 2013, asserting that at the time she wasn't completely over her split from Russell Brand.
The 29-year-old singer told Marie Claire Magazine that breaking-up with Mayer was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with her and that was exactly what let her to a new awakening, ABC News reported.
The 'Wide Awake' hit maker asserted that she realized that if she didn't love herself, she is not going to be able to keep the love that she wants.
Perry added that the breakdown of her marriage felt like she had got punched in the face and she used the time apart from Mayer to move past her split.
