Kazakhstan's EXPO-2017 to focus on theme of future energy

Energy sector-related challenges and opportunities prevailing in the 21st century will be the focus of Expo-2017, a global exhibition to be organized by the Government of Kazakhstan in national capital Astana from June 10 to September 10, 2017.

The theme of the exhibition will be "Future Energy", and the event is expected to be attended by over five million local and international participants from about 100 countries and global organizations.

The exhibition will showcase the latest advancements in the areas of energy, experimental design, environmental technology, infrastructure, construction and tourism.

Briefing select media here about the upcoming event, Kazakh businessman and keen traveler Iskakov Sapar said, "The Republic of Kazakhstan is extremely proud to be hosting the world-famous "EXPO-2017" exhibition in Astana, Kazakhstan in a few years' time. We are currently making the necessary preparations required to successfully conduct the event, and we look forward to the participation of many countries from the Asian region."

"The event will showcase the very best of Astana and Kazakhstan whilst simultaneously shining a light on the very latest energy developments and initiatives available in the world. This exhibition will also help Kazakhstan and countries participating in the event, to make a smoother transition towards a brighter and greener economy and future," he added.

Hosting "EXPO-2017" is a significant milestone for a young nation like Kazakhstan and it believes that the event will create global awareness about the country and highlight its unwavering commitment to energy efficiency.

Kazakhstan is the first post-Soviet Central Asian country selected to host the exhibition, which is a global event that focuses on making knowledge and developments in sustainable energy, universally accessible to all.

One of the core challenges that the exhibition will address, will be the global effort to reduce carbon emissions by controlling the use of existing and potential energy sources and using new technology to reduce the demand for energy across various industries.

The exhibition will also shed light on the global status of energy security, energy access, pollution and global warming.

EXPO-2017 is a symbol of the determination and drive of the Khazakhstanian people as they embark on a new era of development and growth. Part of the nation's 2050 strategy for growth is to reduce carbon emissions in the electricity sector by 40 per cent, the share of gas-burning plants in electricity generation by up to 30 per cent and the share of alternative energy sources in electricity generation by at least 50 per cent.

Kazakhstan is rapidly evolving into a nation that is pioneering the use of energy efficiency at a national level, especially in the areas of urban development, transport and energy distributions.

The event is also expected to help create lasting socio-economic benefits for both the local and international community's by enabling visitors to understand the latest global energy challenges and solutions.

The 25-hectare EXPO site will be fully self-contained and energy efficient, with solar panels providing energy for the entire structure and a large pavilion. A food and recreation facility along with ample parking and electro-mobiles will also be provided. A sound entertainment programme comprising more than 3000 shows, major music events and recreational activities dedicated to the arts, cinema and theatre will also be featured at the exhibition.

After the exhibition, the EXPO-2017 structure and site will remain an iconic public space and landmark in Astana. It will also act as a centre of technology, science and culture and will be a valuable addition to the city as it embarks on an effort to be a self-sustaining district that is home to a mix of students, entrepreneurs and young families.

The structure will serve as an example of sustainable future living and will comprise a mix of residential, commercial and social infrastructure developments.

The vibrant and colorful city of Astana is fast becoming a modern metropolis in the region. By focusing on using alternative sources of energy, Kazakhstan is pioneering the way forward and setting the benchmark for sustainable living.
