The Delhi Cabinet on Monday sought an answer from the Centre as to what powers allowed Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung to declare the orders of the elected city government null and void.

The cabinet also decided to seek the advice of the Ministry of Home Affairs on whether Jung could send or pass such orders to a democratically-elected government of Delhi under the Constitution of India.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also said that his government was not prepared to concede ground on the commission of inquiry set up to probe the CNG fitness scam, and asked the Centre to follow the law as the matter is already sub-judice.

It may be recalled that Lt. Governor Jung had last week warned all officers against following state directives that have been declared null and void by the Centre.

The Delhi Cabinet also decided to put the onus for decision making on revision of pay of DANICS officers on the union home ministry.

The statement from the government reads, "The cabinet has decided to defer the implementation of the grant of grade pay and time-bound grant of scales for DANICS officers till the Union Ministry of Home Affairs ratifies this decision.
