Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal took a jibe at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi over his development claims after the former was detained in Gujarat.

Violent clashes erupted between members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party after Kejriwal was detained.

Kejriwal slammed the BJP and said the party was making attempts to divert from the issue by launching such violent attacks.

"The truth of the model of development, which was earlier being boasted, is now being revealed. They will now launch attacks as they want that the issue to get diverted," said Kejriwal.

The trouble began when the AAP supporters assembled outside BJP headquarters in New Delhi to protest against detention of Kejriwal by Gujarat police, while he was on an election campaign.

According to the Gujarat police, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested as he had failed to take prior permission from police, before his rallies and processions in Gujarat.

Apologising on behalf of his party members, Kejriwal expressed disappointment over protest by AAP supporters.

"I received information that when stones were thrown from the office of the BJP, then AAP workers in retaliation also threw stones. I feel that it is incorrect. The AAP workers should not have done this. I apologise on behalf of AAP workers," Kejriwal added.
