The gunmen who attacked an upscale mall in Nairobi, killing at least 67 people, died in the attack, officials have said.

Al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabaab militants claimed responsibility for the 21 September attack on Nairobi's Westgate Mall.

According to news24, Al-Shabaab said that the attack was in retaliation of Kenya sending its troops to Somalia to fight the militants.

Dennis Brady, the FBI Legal Attache in Nairobi, said in an interview posted on Friday on the bureau's website that they believe that the four gunmen inside the mall were killed.

A New York police department report on the attack raised the possibility the gunmen may have escaped, the report added.
