Kenyan security forces have gunned down at least 100 militants a day after Al Shabab militants launched a deadly attack on a Kenyan bus, officials said.

Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto said on Sunday that forces crossed into Somalia and conducted two "successful" operations on the hideouts of the perpetrators. He said that the militant camp where the attack was planned was destroyed, reported the CNN.

Al Shabab gunmen attacked a bus in northern Kenya on Saturday, killing at least 28 non-Muslim passengers.

The gunmen separated non-Muslims by asking them to read verses from the Koran, said officials and witnesses. People who could not read were shot in the head, they added.

Al Shabab, the Somalia based militant group has carried out numerous attacks across Kenya since 2011.
