The Kerala Cabinet on Friday recommended to the Governor to have an ordinance for reducing the tenure of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) members from three to two years passed.

The Travancore Devaswom Board is an autonomous body formed as per the Travancore Cochin Hindu Religious Institutions Act of 1950, and hence, the bill can be passed only by making amendments in the act.

According to sources, the cabinet's recommendation comes in the wake of TDB president Prayar Gopalakrishnan and board member Ajay Tharayail, both of whom were nominated by the previous Congress-led UDF Government in the state, completing two years in office tomorrow.
