Senior Congress leader and former external affairs minister Salman Khurshid on Saturday the West Bengal Government must have taken the decision not to permit Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah to hold rally in Kolkata considering his past.

"The Bengal Government must have taken the decision considering the reality of Bengal and seeing Amit Shah's past. I feel that the one who can understand it will also understand that it's not very good, but the court's decision needs to be abided," Khurshid told a press conference in Ranchi while reacting to the Calcutta High Court's decision to grant Shah permission to hold rally in Kolkata on Sunday.

Justice Debangshu Basak, who gave the permission, named two special officers to ensure that the BJP complies with all the rules.

The Police Commissioner has also been asked to depute an officer to assist them.

The West Bengal Government is considering to move before the division bench against the single bench court order.

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation had earlier on Thursday denied permission to Shah to hold a rally in the city, thereby deepening the feud between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP.
