Kiran Bedi awards scholarships to Imphal students

Kiran Bedi, India's first woman police officer recently visited Manipur capital Imphal, where she gave away scholarships to 50 students from the Aryans Group of Colleges.

The event was organised at the Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy with an aim to make higher education a possibility for needy and poor students.

Enthusiastic students and parents came out in large numbers to participate in the selection process.

Bedi said: "I am speaking for the Aryan Group of Colleges, Chandigarh. They are giving a third of the scholarship straightaway and full scholarship to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes. So, it is promoting professional education graduation, post graduation and other professional degrees.
