Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi on Wednesday said that Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju has lauded Delhi Police for their initiatives to curb crime against women in the city.

"Honorable Minister of State of Home Affairs had come to enquire about the working of Delhi Police, we then gave him a presentation explaining our work in various fields with which he was satisfied. He praised us for the efforts we have made to curb crime against women, use of technology and efforts involving training girls for self defence," Bassi told media persons here.

Bassi also said Delhi Police is installing more CCTV cameras in the national capital to improve the security situation in the city.

"Delhi Police is of opinion that if the CCTV coverage in the city increases then the security situation will improve. As you all know that we are installing 5000 cameras in the city at government's expense, of which 4900 have already been installed. The government is also considering installation of further 10000 cameras," Bassi said.

He further urged the people of Delhi to help the police by installing CCTV cameras in busy areas which are critical from a security point of view.

"The CCTV cameras have helped the police in the investigation of a lot of cases , and in most cases these were not because of the cameras installed by us but by the public. So we are contacting business establishments, religious places, restaurants, private offices and other such busy areas to help police by installing cameras," Bassi added.

In recent times, Delhi Police has garnered praise from various quarters for its swiftness in investigating crimes.

Last month, in the Uber cab rape incident, the police nabbed the culprit within 24 hours of the crime's occurrence.
