Kishtwar pays homage to social worker for promoting communal harmony

Residents of Kishtwar recently paid homage to veteran trade union leader and social worker Rehmatullah Malik on the occasion of his fifth death anniversary.

A grand function based on the theme of "Communal Harmony" was held at Shaheedi Mazar Kishtwar in which several if his associates, trade unionist and his friends remembered Malik's contribution for the cause of poor and employees.

Prominent educationist Som Nath Sharma called on the teaching community to play its part in promoting peace and communal harmony.

He said that all religions teach peace, communal harmony and brotherhood.

He also paid tribute to Malik and said that his sons are taking the legacy of their father forward.

Religious scholar Dr. Mohammad Iqbal Malik said that the deceased social worker always stood for promoting peace and communal harmony and added this is why a large number of people participated in this program jointly organized by Joint Employees Front and IHRO Kishtwar.

He said Islam as a religion promotes peace, communal harmony and brotherhood by strengthening the trade and people to people contact between the two communities.

The speakers also appreciated the role of Umar Malik, who like his father, is an active social and political activist of the region and is currently state secretary of the PDP's youth wing.

Umar stressed called on members of both communities to work for the betterment of society and maintain the spirit of brotherhood.

Others who spoke on the occasion were Rafi Kitchloo, Latief Naqueeb and Kevalkrishan Sharma.
