The knife that was carried by one of the elite SEAL Team Six members in the 2011 raid on former al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden, has been sold at an auction, with the proceeds going to the family of another fallen SEAL, Brett Shadle.

SEAL team member Matt Bissonnette - who wrote his book "No Easy Day" under the pen name of Mark Owen -was given the knife by Ernest Emerson, the owner of company Emerson Knives, reports New York Daily News.

He carried it with him for eight long years, including the May 1, 2011, raid that ended with the killing of Osama.

The auction raised a total of 35,400 dollars for the knife.

According to ABC News, the complete fund-raiser garnered more than 75,000 dollars for charitable organizations.

Owen said on the auction website said giving back to the community is very important to him and if donating the knife to charity helps with that process, then he is more than happy to do it.

The knife buyer's identity remains unknown.
