Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli has surpassed team-mate Chris Gayle's record to become the highest run-getter in a single Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
The Indian prolific batsman smashed an unbeaten 75 off 51 balls to break Gayle's record of 733 runs during his side's nine-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens last evening.
Kohli has notched up 752 runs in the 12 matches so far, including three centuries and five half-centuries in contrast to Gayle's record from 15 matches,Sport24 reported.
Kohli, who remained unbeaten at 75, also shared a huge 115-run partnership with AB de Villiers (unbeaten at 59) for the second wicket to help Challengers chased down the huge target of 184 runs with eight balls to spare.
Reflecting on the same, Gayle compared the duo with superheroes like Batman and Superman and said that they are in the form of their life.
Earlier, Kohli (109) and De Villiers (129) also recorded the highest partnership (229) in Twenty20 cricket history during their whooping 144-run win over Gujarat Lions on Saturday.
The duo also bettered their previous partnership record of unbeaten 215 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium last year.
