India captain Virat Kohli put up a resilient ton against Australian bowlers on the third day of the fourth and final Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground to steer his side to a respectable total of 342 runs for the loss of five wickets at stumps.
Resuming their first innings on the third day, India lost Rohit Sharma for his individual score of 53. He was trying to play on with an attempted sweep but Nathan Lyon's off-spin bounced very full from outside off and went over the batsman's sweep and on to the stumps.
Rookie opener Lokesh Rahul put on a fine display of his skills as he knocked a resilient ton in the face of the Australian bowlers. Rahul was caught and bowled by Australian paceman Mitchell Starc for his individual score of 110.
Kohli, however, kept steady and remained unbeaten at stumps on his individual score of 140.
The batsman proved why he is considered as the star Indian big-hitter as he hit 20 fours on way to his unbeaten 140.
Ajinkya Rahane and Suresh Raina failed to add much to the Indian scoreline. Rahane was trapped lbw by Shane Watson's express delivery on his individual score of 13, while Raina lost his wicket on the first ball he faced for a duck.
