A Pakistani fan of star batsman Virat Kohli has been sentenced to 10 in jail for waving the flag of India when the cricketer made a match-winning knock.

According to Dunya Tv, police said Umar Daraz, 22, went "against the ideology of Pakistan" when he waved the flag at his house in Okara town in Punjab province Tuesday during the match against Australia in Adelaide.

Daraz was celebrating Kohli's knock of 90 not out, which set up India's 37-run win in the first of three Twenty20 internationals against Australia.

Police arrested Daraz after conducting a raid on his home and registered a case under the Maintenance of Public Order.

The detained man revealed that he was fan of India's Test captain Kohli and that he had photographs of the swashbuckling batsman pasted on the walls of his house.

Daraz also said that he had no idea that he had committed a blunder by hoisting the Indian flag.
