A court here sent six men accused of gang raping a 23-year-old Japanese student to jail till January 30 on Friday.
The six accused, Mohammad Sabir, Washim Khan, Sahid Iqbal, Mohammad Wasim, Javed Khan and Sajid Khan, were produced before a court in Kolkata.
No court official was available for a briefing following the death of a lawyer.
Kolkata police busted a racket of tour guides, who duped Japanese students and tourists.
Three tour guides lured a Japanese student and took her to Gaya city in India's eastern Bihar state, where they were joined by three more people, and then gang-raped her and looted her of Rs.25,000.
The Japanese tourist alleged that she was raped on November 23, 2014 and a complaint was filed on November 26 in Kolkata city.

More and more sex crimes have been reported in India since Dec. 2012 protests over the rape of a young woman on a bus in the capital, New Delhi, and her subsequent death.
Statistics showed that 244,270 crimes against women were reported to the police in 2012, against 228,650 in 2011, according to the National Crimes Records Bureau (NCRB).
These include rapes, kidnappings, sexual harassment, trafficking, molestation and cruelty by husbands and relatives.
