Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has signed a new five-year contract with the Premier League champions and would remain with the club until 2019.

Kompany has been at the Etihad since 2008 and has won the title twice as well as the FA Cup and League Cup.

The new deal makes the Bulgarian defender the fourth first teamer this summer to sign a new contract, following Aleksander Kolarov, Samir Nasri and David Silva, The Mirror reported.

Kompany said that when he arrived in 2008, he could never have dreamed that they could achieve what they have over the last six years but, for him, this is just the start of the journey.

The defender said that the City squad is stronger now than it's ever been; they have competition for places in every position and a dressing room full of exceptional, motivated people who want to continue making history together.

Kompany also said that lifting two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the Capital One Cup have been four of the best days of his life but he believes that there are many more of these occasions ahead.
