Kremlin rejects breach of international laws on disarmament

Russia on Friday rejected the accusations of violating international laws concerning strategic stability.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia did not want to get involved in a new arms race.

"The president noted that the development of the weapons was nothing but Russia response to the United States withdrawal from the INF (Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces) treaty and the creation of the global air defense system that infringes upon the nuclear balance and is capable of neutralizing Russian strategic forces," sputnik quoted Peskov as saying.

He also added that the country would not attack anybody if no one attacked it.

This statement comes a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed that his country developed nuclear weapons that were capable of avoiding any missile defence systems.

Speaking to the lawmakers at his annual address, Putin warned that Moscow would consider any nuclear attack, irrespective of its size, on it or its allies as an attack on Russia and would retaliate immediately by adopting Cold War-style overtones.
