Kurdish troops involved in fighting Islamic State (IS) militants in Syrian town of Kobane have reportedly seized control over a strategic hilltop, a report said.
London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and local officials said that the victory followed fierce clashes in the region, reported the BBC.
The Mishtenur hill overlooks the embattled town that is located on Syria-Turkey border.
The monitoring group said the victory meant that key IS resupply routes were within the line of fire.
It added that 11 IS militants were killed in the fight and large quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized.
The IS has been attempting to gain control of Kobane since September but has faced fierce resistance from Kurdish fighters. Hundreds of people have been killed in the conflict while, more than 200,000 refugees have fled into neighbouring Turkey.
