In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha over the Lalit Modi row, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Thursday said that the revoked passport of the former IPL boss was restored by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on the direction of the Delhi High Court in August, 2014.
A complaint was filed against Lalit Modi by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under section 16 (3) of Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999.
Swaraj is facing immense heat from the opposition, ever since her alleged links with Lalit Modi came in the public domain a couple of months ago.
The BJP's rivals, particularly the Congress, have been demanding her resignation from the Cabinet for aiding the IPL czar in acquiring travel documents for him to fly to from the UK to Portugal in August 2014.
Lalit Modi was expelled from the BCCI in 2013 and issued show-cause notices under charges of corruption, giving contracts to friends, and high-handedness.
