Expressing his delight with the defeat of the ruling Janata Dal (United) in the Maharajganj Lok Sabha by-poll, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav on Wednesday said Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar must resign and apologise for his follies.
"It is defeat of Nitish Kumar, his policies, it is his failure. He should apologise and step down," said Yadav.
Former Bihar Chief Minister and Yadav's wife, Rabri Devi, on her part expressed her gratitude towards the voters of Maharajganj.
"People of Bihar want change from the Maharajganj by-polls and the process of change has begun. I congratulate people of Maharajganj," she said.
Nitish Kumar lost a major point of prestige to his rival Lalu Prasad Yadav today as the RJD won the Lok Sabha by-election from Maharajganj with a margin of over 1.37 lakh votes.
Maharajganj, held by RJD in 2009 general elections, was now secured by RJD's Prabhunath Singh who polled over 3.81 lakh votes.
JD (U) candidate P K Shahi got over 2.44 lakh votes and Congress candidate Jitendra Swami came third with over 22,000 votes.
