Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of taking undue credit for the September 29 surgical strike carried out by Indian Army across Line of Control (LoC) and said the focus should instead be on increasing the morale of the armed forces.

"Surgical strikes have happened before as it has happened now, and it will continue to happen in the future as well. We should encourage our army more, but why the BJP is taking credit for the surgical strike? The credit should go to our army" Yadav told the reporters here.

The ruling dispensation has been on drawing widespread criticism from the opposition for "misusing" September 29 attacks to meet its political gains.

CPI (M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said it was "despicable" to see an Indian Army operation being misused for political gains in rallies and on election posters of the BJP.

Congress leader Salman Khurshid on the other hand accused the incumbent regime of "trying to create an impression" that the UPA did nothing in its tenure.

Another Congress leader, Sanjay Nirupam stirred a controversy by calling the surgical strikes as "fake" and demanded proof from the government.
