Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre for its land acquisition bill and said the ordinance has been brought in for "super rich" people.
"A year ago the people of India voted for the Modi government with a lot of hope and trust. What has happened in one year that farmers feel that Narendra Modi-government is against them?," Kejriwal said in the rally at Jantar Mantar.
"Why was there a need for an ordinance on Land Bill? Ordinances are meant for emergencies. What was the emergency? Will not let land being taken away from farmers in Delhi without their consent. If a project was stalled, let the government tell the country and the whole country will support them," he added.
Kejriwal said, "Did they ever sit the farmers down and ask them if they want to sell their land?"
"This ordinance has been brought in for "super rich" people. The need of the hour is that all the farmers of the nation should come together. They should ask for a just compensation," he added.
The AAP chief further claimed that AAP government is the only government which has compensated the farmers suffering due to unseasonal rains at the rate of Rs. 50,000 per hectare.
