Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam has threatened to resign amid anti-government protests over failure to remove uncollected rubbish from the streets.
According to the BBC, the protesters clashed with police following which water cannon and tear gas was used to disperse the crowds. Dozens were reportedly injured.
Lebanon does not have a president and parliament remains in a stalemate.
Salam's government has been accused of being restricted by sectarian rivalries that have been worsened by the conflict in Syria.
Protesters have blamed political paralysis and corruption for the failure to resolve the crisis.
