Former England football star David Beckham and American basketball great LeBron James are reportedly considering joining forces to launch a new Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise in Miami.

Beckham's deal with Los Angeles Galaxy and MLS gave him the option to buy a new league franchise for a cut-price 25 million dollars, with MLS announcing plans to expand from 19 teams to 24 teams by 2020.

According to The Guardian, James, who plays in MLS side Miami Heat, confirmed that he is considering joining forces with the former Manchester United star in his plans for a new MLS team, saying that Beckham has become a good friend of his over the last few years

Stating that it would be good for Miami to have a football club, James further said that that the research for the side is still going on, adding that the fact that Miami has a number of young soccer players would help in a prospective bid to launch a MLS franchise.

James already has an interest in soccer, including a small ownership stake in Premier League side Liverpool, via a marketing deal with Fenway Sports Management, part of the group which also own the Boston Red Sox, the report added.
