Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia on Tuesday said his party's unprecedented performance in the Delhi assembly polls was not a reason to celebrate, but a time to start working for the city's development.
"First of all, I would like to thank the voters of Patparganj who believed that I will work for their development and have elected me for the second time. I would also like to thank everybody who has worked for the AAP because without their love and hard work, this historic win would not have been possible," Sisodia told mediapersons,
"In our brief rule earlier, the people were convinced that we can govern the city well and thus voted for us. I just want to say that this is not a victory; this is the belief that the people have in us. This is not a celebration; this is the time to start working. This is the time to make true all the points raised by us in our manifesto and 'Delhi Dialogue'. When we are successful to do this, then we will start celebrating," he added.
Introspecting on the reasons for the Bharatiya Janata Party's poor showing in the elections, Sisodia felt that the lack of plan, as far as Delhi is concerned, meant that his rival party suffered in the mandate of the people.
"The problem with the BJP was that they neither had a plan, nor the leadership for Delhi. We urged them to bring forward a plan but they merely abused us," he said.
In a major setback for the BJP and the Congress, the AAP won the elections, with the Arvind Kejriwal-led party leading in 66 of the 70 assembly seats up for grabs, as of 2 pm.
The BJP, which was relying heavily on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's popularity and had also brought in former IPS officer Kiran Bedi as its chief ministerial candidate to counter Kejriwal, managed to secure just three seats.
The Congress, which had ruled the national capital for 15 years up to 2013 and was trying to rebuild its lost ground in Delhi, lost from every seat it contested.
