Libya has reportedly abrogated a "controversial law" that prohibited Gaddafi-era officials from participating in politics.
The law was passed by the nation's internationally recognized parliament under coercion in 2013 when Members of Parliament were being held by armed groups in the capital city of Tripoli, reported the BBC.
The move had received flak from rights groups who described it as sweeping.
MP Ibrahim Alzgheid confirmed that the law had been passed by the parliament.
However, concerns are being raised over the implementation of the new law as the elected parliament in the city of Tobruk has only limited powers and is opposed by militia controlling Tripoli.
