The Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is yet to benefit from the lifting of U.S.-led sanctions as per a nuclear agreement that was signed between the United States and five other world powers with Iran on July 14, said a U.S. State Department.

According to the Dawn, a U.S. State Department official said that the lifting of sanctions for commercial deals with Iran had not started yet.

The US official further added that he would not offer any opinion on " possible future business deals."

The agreement was signed to ease the economic sanctions on Tehran if it abandoned its nuclear weapons programme.

Tariq Fatemi, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's special adviser on foreign affairs, said that Pakistan welcomed the deal because it would open the doors for economic cooperation with Iran, including the construction of a pipeline to bring natural gas for the energy-starved South Asian nation.
