Social media service for professionals, LinkedIn has reportedly targeted high school students in a bid to make them familiar with the service and thereby enhance the future labour pool.

LinkedIn with its new measure will aim at the lucrative college recruiting market at the same time also work towards safeguarding the privacy and security of teens.

According to CBS News, the site is boosting the degree of protection available for the 14- year olds, including a way to block specific accounts.

The report said that the early the young people hop on the site, the more the company will become important online and improve its long-range business prospects.

LinkedIn spokesperson said that the 'University Pages' would provide students with access to actual data to help them make more informed decisions about where they go to school.

The spokesperson added that if the students want to work for particular companies, they could look through the alumni of their top school choices and see who has gone on to work for that company, what they are skilled at and the path they took to get there.

The site allows the young users to add honors and awards, test scores, projects, and courses to their profiles, which are more likely to interest college recruiters as hiring managers.

However, as teens are more vulnerable to potential stalking and online abuse as faced by the site's adult users, LinkedIn is now aiming at introducing the previously unavailable, account blocking feature to address the issue, the report added.
