Former English footballer Gary Lineker has reportedly branded the brutal sacking of Norwich City manager Chris Hughton as 'utterly bonkers and deluded'.

Hughton has been reportedly fired and replaced by youth team coach Neil Adams although just five games of the season are left.

Match of the Day host Lineker led the public outcry as the only black manager remaining among English football's 92 professional clubs was sacked, the Mirror reported.

Hughton was reportedly left stunned after he was called in by chief executive David McNally and sacked along with his staff Colin Calderwood and Paul Trollope following warm down session at the training ground.

Lineker, who is a former teammate of Hughton at Tottenham Hotspur, raged that the statistics show that considering a new man in charge will bring an immediate upturn in fortunes is a complete myth.

However in a fatuous statement, Norwich has claimed that the board had taken the decision in order to provide the club with the maximum chance to secure the points required to stave off relegation from the Premier League, the report added.
