Indian filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava may have had to fight her way to release her latest film in her home country, but now, 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' is all set to hit the U.S. theatres.

The movie is set to hit the theatres across US on September 15.

Prior to its official release in India on July 21, the movie had won eleven international film festival awards.

The film was initially being banned from cinemas for being too "lady-oriented."

To express her happiness, the film's lead, Konkona Sen Sharma, took to her Twitter account and posted a poster of the movie with the caption, "So pleased that Lipstick will release in the US!! Please watch!! ??????"

The movie, which depicts the secret world, including the sex lives, of four small-town Indian women, was released in India after months of wrangling with the censor board.
