Welsh and Liverpool football legend Ian Rush has hailed controversial striker Luis Suarez as the Anfield side's 100 million-pound man and has backed him to help the club recapture their glory days of the past.

When Rush was in his pomp in the Eighties, Merseyside was the place to be, with Liverpool (seven times) and Everton (twice) cleaning up when it came to the league title.

According to the Daily Express, despite its setback on Boxing Day, Rush believes that Liverpool has a head start on their neighbours from across Stanley Park as they have in their midst the 100 million-pound Suarez, who arrived two years ago from Ajax for what is now clearly a bargain 22.7 million pounds.

Branding Suarez as the best player in the world now, Rush said that in contrast to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who are not playing regularly, Suarez is doing so and in the hardest league in the world, adding that Uruguayan has taken his football to a different level.

The fact that Suarez is still on Merseyside despite his controversial actions, been given the most lucrative contract in the club's history and been made captain in Gerrard's absence, is down to the manager and owners, said Rush.
