Real Madrid would reportedly see their hopes of signing England winger Raheem Sterling wrecked, as Liverpool is set to award the teenager with a new long-term contract with them.
Liverpool is now reportedly ready to reward the teenager for his meteoric rise to the top by handing him a 1,00,000 pounds-a-week deal. Sterling still has three years left on his current deal but the plan at Anfield is to have a five-year agreement signed and sealed inside the next month.
Real has been monitoring the Sterling's progress and were aware that his 30,000 pounds-a-week wages do not match his burgeoning reputation, The Mirror reported.
A Liverpool source said that talks with Sterling have progressed very well and they don't see any problems arising from this point. The source added that there is rush to get the contract signed, but they are now at a stage where they are talking weeks rather than months.
The Spanish giants were ready to make a move next summer to link up Sterling with Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez, the report added.
