The new recruit to the United States Open 275-strong ball boy squad is not a boy but a tattooed rookie who is old enough to be a grandfather.

Todd Reed, 53, who retired as an undercover narcotics specialist and is a war veteran will now be holding umbrellas for players during breaks and fetching ice, towels, bananas or anything else that a player needs along with a gang of 16-year-olds during the US Open, reported New York Post.

However, the grandfather of three is not just stealing the show as the oldest ball boy at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center this year but also because of his uber-cool red, white and blue prosthetic. The war veteran had lost part of his right leg during a land mine explosion in Iraq during a desert storm.

Reed is the second oldest ball boy to work at the US Open, next only to a 65-year-old lawyer, Jerry Loughran, who quit the judicial courts last year.
