Expressing concern over the hike in prices of petrol and diesel, the locals in Uttar Pradesh's Agra city on Friday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government for failing to fulfill its promise of bringing 'ache din'.
"I am extremely troubled. The prices were already inflated and now the government has increased the price even more. Where is the poor man supposed to go? Everyone said Modiji will bring 'acche din', but all we can see are bad days," said Rakesh, a local here.
"The rich will not face problems, but the poor man will definitely face problems," he added.
Balkishan, a daily wage worker, on his part said that the common man cannot handle inflation.
"It is wrong to decrease prices first and then suddenly increase them. We are daily workers and this increase in price gives us a lot of trouble. They increase the prices by Rs. 4 and then decrease them by Rs. 1, what use is that?" he asked.
Nihul, a college student, also looked upset with the latest increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.

"There are so many students, who use their own vehicles and we get limited pocket money from home. With petrol prices rising, our spending will increase," he said.
Another student Dhruv said that his daily expenses would rise with the diesel hike.
"An increase by Rs. 2.50 matters a lot. The government is completely responsible for this," he added.
Earlier on Thursday, the oil companies raised the price of petrol and diesel by Rs. 3.96 per litre and Rs. 2.37 per litre respectively. The hike in prices was effective from midnight.
With the revised prices, the price of petrol in Agra is Rs. 69.91 per litre and that of diesel is Rs. 54.15 per litre.
This is the third increase in fuel prices this year. The government had earlier in March hiked the prices of petrol and diesel by Rs. 3.18 and Rs. 3.09 respectively. Earlier in February, petrol was hiked by 82 paise and diesel by 61 paise.
