In a bid to reduce paper work in the day-to-day functioning of Parliament, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Sunday launched an e-portal for the members that will enable them to interact with various branches of the secretariat online.
Speaking on the occasion, Mahajan said by reducing the use of paper, the government is not only preserving the environment but also saving money.
She said the initiative to make the Parliament paperless has saved around Rs. 80 lakhs so far.
"The e-portal has been launched. The members can put questions and give notices online as well. We have stared providing training to all in this regard," she said.
"Every member will be given a login id and password. Using that the members will be able to access the portal. It can be used for issuing notices, calling adjournment motion, calling attention motion. The portal will be available in Hindi and English," she added.
Mahajan said the members would receive acknowledgement for their notices and calling motions information entered on the portal.

"Members will have to keep in mind the time. If a member has to sent a notice for zero hour. Then the time for it is 8.30 am to 9.30 am. The portal will not take submissions after that," she said.
The portal also provides ready information regarding Bills, committee meeting schedules, agenda and reports, verbatim debates and other parliamentary information.
