Madagascar on Friday scrapped few parts of its new electoral laws as several elements of the laws went against their constitution.

As per certain media reports, the opposition had staged protests to accuse the ruling government of pushing them out of the electoral race.

According to a local court's website, there were elements in the laws, including revision of electoral lists and the length of political campaigns that went against the constitution.

The opposition argued that the deleted sections had favoured Madagascar's incumbent President Hery Rajaonarimampianina and called for his resignation.

It further alleged that due to the revised laws, certain candidates from the opposition were barred from contesting the elections.

Following the conflict between the ruling and the opposition parties, anti-government protests erupted on April 21 in capital Antananarivo.
