Maha Govt., Mumbai Police take strongest action against gangrape culprits: Digvijay Singh

Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Friday condemned the gangrape of a photojournalist in Mumbai, and said that the Maharashtra Government and Mumbai Police will take the strongest action against all culprits.

"We all strongly condemn and we can't be supporting any kind of crime against women. We strongly condemn this and of course the Government of Maharashtra and the police of Mumbai will take the strongest action against all culprits," he told media here.

The incident took place last evening in Lower Parel area where the 23-year-old woman had gone for an assignment. The woman was working with an English Magazine as an intern.

In a statement given to police, she said the five goons were present in the Shakti Mills compound.

They started making lewd remarks and harassed her. When her friend intervened, two of them assaulted him.

Three others took her inside the dilapidated structure and raped her. The victim has been admitted to Jaslok Hospital. She is stated to be in a stable condition now.
