Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said India is in dire need of clean energy, and thus, the deal struck by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the French government is a welcome move.

"India is in dire need of nuclear protection and nuclear energy. Everyone knows the stage at which the Jaitapur nuclear power project has reached. Commenting on these issues based on speculation is wrong. The Prime Minister is in France and we have full faith that he will take a decision that will benefit the nation," Fadnavis said.

Stressing on the need for clean energy, he said misconceptions about nuclear energy need to be cleared and that steps needed to be taken to change the mindset of the people.
