The Maharashtra government on Tuesday directed multiplexes across the state to show Marathi films during the prime time slot, also considering to make the screening of a documentary on Dadasaheb Phalke before every movie mandatory.

Maharashtra Culture Minister Vinod Tawde said that such a decision has been taken to promote Marathi movies.

"We will talk to Marathi film producers and multiplex owners to decide on two show timings to show Marathi films, out of which they can choose one. For Dadasaheb Phalke documentary, they will have to show it before the movie in that language....Prime time is the time when all the members of the family can come to watch a movie, like the 6 pm to 9 pm slot," Tawde said.

Tawde further said that the state government is also working towards replacing the word 'Bombay' with 'Mumbai' in the laws and legislations in the state.

"There are 199 laws in which Bombay word is still in use, our government will work towards replacing these with Mumbai," he said.
