Maharashtra Police have confirmed busting a Maoist hideout in the jungles of the state's Gadchiroli District.
Police also said that during the raid, they were engaged in a fierce gun battle with the rebels, and added that one rebel was killed and number of explosives had been recovered.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Superintendent of Police for Gadchiroli, M. Raj Kumar, said, "Today (Saturday) during our search operation in the jungle areas we spotted a Naxal camp. The rebels opened fire on the police officials and we retaliated in self defence. The Naxals fled from the camp. When we searched the camp area, we found three claymore mines, explosive blast, many wire bundles with fuses, one 9 mm semi automatic pistol, 1 country made gun and a dead body."
The identity of the recovered body has not been ascertained.
Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since the 1960s.
The Maoists, who say they are fighting for the rights of the poor and landless, control some of India's mineral-rich areas and operate in large areas of the eastern, central and southern countryside.
The rebels are estimated to number 7000 hardcore fighters in nearly a third of India's 630 districts.
