Sri Lankan cricketer Farveez Maharoof has said that young batsmen in the country need to be persevered with because the more they will play, the more mature they would become which would only help the level of the national team.

In an interview with Pakpassion.net, Maharoof said that Sri Lanka produced more unorthodox cricketers such as Ajantha Mendis and Lasith Malinga, than any other cricketing nation, because the system promoted pure talent.

The cricketer also said that Tom Moody had been a very inspirational coach for Sri Lanka and helped him introduce a lot of innovations.

Maharoof expressed that his most memorable performance has been the six-wicket haul against the West Indies during the Champions Trophy in 2006.

The player spoke fondly of his experiences of playing for Lancashire and praised Angelo Mathews as captain of the Sri-Lankan ODI side.

Maharoof, however, was unhappy with the canceling of the Sri Lankan Premier League and said that it was one of the tournaments the country was looking forward to.
