Rights activist Malala Yousafzai has invited rape survivor Kainat Soomro to Oslo, Norway to attend the Nobel award ceremony on December 10.
Soomro said that she was surprised to receive a call from Yousafzai who invited her and her father to the award ceremony and encouraged her to continue to pursue her studies. She also quoted Yousafzai as saying that she would be honoured to have Soomro there, reported the Dawn.
On receiving the invitation on Oct 18, when Soomro informed Yousafzai that her family would not be able to bear the travel expenses, the child activist said that she would provide all logistics support to them.
Soomro will now leave for Oslo on December 8 and would be back by December 13.
Now 21-year-old, Soomro was allegedly gang raped in Mehar taluqa of Dadu district in 2007. Undeterred by the circumstances, she pursued the case against the perpetrators but the case has been proceeding even today without any result. During this period, her brother has been killed and his case has been shut down forcibly by some powerful elements who want to stop her from pursuing the case, she said.
Her father, Ghulam Nabi Soomro, said that it was a great honour for the entire family to receive an invitation from the Nobel laureate.
Seventeen-year-old Yousafzai will receive the award alongside Kailash Satyarthi, Indian child rights campaigner in Oslo.
