Holding the West Bengal Government responsible for the Malda rampage, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday said the violence shows how far the Trinamool Congress (TMC) can go for vote bank politics.
"It is very much unfortunate and condemnable. Communal menace can clearly be seen in the state and it is a matter of concern. The West Bengal Government is justifying that menace. It reflects the mindset how far they can go for vote," BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi told ANI.
Resonating similar sentiments, another BJP leader Nalin Kohli said the West Bengal Government is afraid that the truth of the Malda violence would come out if the BJP fact-finding team visits there.
A three-member fact finding team of the BJP, who were detained earlier today, lashed out at the state government for denying them entry to the violence-hit area in Kaliachak. They asserted that they had come to Malda with the sole purpose of helping the people but failed to do so as Section 144 had been imposed in the area.

"The District Magistrate told us himself that Section 144 had been imposed due to the law and order situation in the area. We said that we have not come here to destabilise the situation but to help the people. We want to know the truth," BJP MP S.S. Ahluwalia, who is a member of the fact finding team, told ANI.
Stating that the delegation had arrived to find the truth about the situation in Kaliachak, the fact finding team expressed disappointment at not being allowed to enter the violence-hit area.
