The man charged with injuring New Zealand all-rounder Jesse Ryder is set to go on trial in March 2015, almost two years after the charge was laid.

The 38-year-old builder, who has temporary name suppression, is charged with injuring Ryder with reckless disregard for his safety in an incident in Merivale, Christchurch. The man has pleaded not guilty, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The trial of the case will be held in the Christchurch District Court in the week of March 2 next year.

The man will reportedly be represented by Jonathan Eaton QC as his defence counsel.

The Crown will allege Ryder received the head injury in the incident that began at Aikmans Bar, Merivale, early on March 28, 2013, and ended with injury being inflicted outside in a car park, the report added.
