The Belgian prosecutors have confirmed that a man has been shot after he attacked two soldiers with a knife in Brussels.
The attacker is reportedly in serious condition in a hospital.
The attack took place on Boulevard Emile Jacqmain in the centre of Brussels.
"Soldiers retaliated after the man attacked them with a weapon which some eyewitnesses have purported was a machete," reported news portal Metro.
Authorities said that the 30-year-old man is not known for any terrorist activities.
The prosecution service's spokeswoman said, 'With the identity that we currently have it is a 30-year-old man who is not known for terrorist activities.'

Two soldiers suffered minor injuries in the attack one in the face, the other in the hand.
Belgium's anti-terror command unit confirmed that soldiers had "neutralised" a person.
